This course was designed for clinical social workers in the state of Texas who want to take on supervision. OR, for those outside of Texas who want to start offering supervision services in Texas!

The course will teach you the required Texas laws, statutes, and what you need to know to start providing these services to LMSWs.

Learning objectives
After completing this program, participants will be able to:
Apply foundational social work theories and techniques to supervise mental health practitioners effectively, including the use of wellness and prevention strategies, crisis intervention models, and telehealth methods in diverse clinical scenarios.

Analyze the impact of multiculturalism and diversity on supervision and client care, incorporating culturally competent practices and advocacy strategies into supervisory relationships and organizational systems.

Demonstrate understanding of professional identity formation by supporting supervisees in their transition from provisional licensure to independent practice, including conducting structured self-assessments for professional development.

Evaluate and apply ethical decision-making models in supervision, aligned with Texas state licensure requirements, U.S. federal standards, and relevant mental health policies, ensuring supervisees adhere to legal and ethical conduct.

Guide supervisees in interdisciplinary team functioning by modeling and reinforcing best practices in collaboration, referrals, quality control, service delivery, and the ethical use of social media and professional marketing.

About Ashley:
Dr. Stephens is a LCSW-S who is a consultant, consultant firm owner, and mental health provider. She has experience working with local, state, and federal government agencies in numerous roles as consultant, trainer, and teacher. She has a passion for training and speaking particularly, offering participants a chance to dive deep into the content of the training, while being able to make actionable change in their daily lives. She supervises in 5 states, and mentors others on the journey to providing supervision.

This online course provides forty hours of continuing education in an interactive and asynchronous home study format. Home study course hours are calculated via written text (6000 words = one hour) and video (one hour = one hour).

Kate Walker Training courses fulfill the Texas social work rules requiring that 50% of continuing education courses come from a designated provider type.

Social Workers must attend the entire course, turn in all assignments, and complete a course evaluation to be eligible for CE credit. Certificates of completion will be emailed within 3 business days of course completion.
LCSW Online 40 Hour Supervisor Training Course, course #XXXX, is approved by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program to be offered by Social Work World as an individual course. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE course approval period: XXXXXX – XXXXXX. Social workers completing this course receive 40 hours CE, with 26 ethics continuing education credits.

Q: If I finish this program, am I automatically a supervisor?
A: No. The LCSW Online 40 Hour Supervisor Training Course is not a certification course. Upon completing this program, participants seeking the clinical supervisor credential must still meet the criteria mandated in their state regulations, apply, and pay all applicable fees. State licensing boards have ultimate jurisdiction.
Q: Is this course approved by the Texas LCSW licensing board? I remember that courses must be taught by approved providers only.
A: There is long answer to this:
In 2019 the law requiring the 40 hour LCSW supervisor training to be offered only by an approved provider was eliminated. Now, the Social Work board does not pre-approve CE providers or supervisor training courses. The workshop version of our 40 hour LPC/LMFT Supervisor Course was audited and approved by the Texas LPC Board in 2016. 2024 is the first year we're offering the LCSW Supervisor Course, so we have high hopes that we'll pass any audits that come our way in the future.The Social Work board requires the course instructor to be a Council-approved LCSW Supervisor and Dr. Stephens is a LCSW Supervisor. Additionally, the Texas Social Work regulations require LCSW Supervisor training courses to meet certain criteria. We encourage you to preview the Syllabus so you can see exactly how the Kate Walker Training 40 Hour Social Work Supervisor Training meets or exceeds Texas Social Work standards.

Q: I didn't think we could take the LCSW Online 40 Hour Supervisor Training Course completely online. Did that law change too?
A: It did indeed in 2019.
Q: Can you guarantee that my certificate will be accepted by the LCSW Boards and they will automatically give me my supervisor designation?

A: Remember the licensing boards have final say. If you are missing experience hours or you are trying to transfer from another state, the board may have additional requirements for you. Also, the board may have additional requirements due to rule updates (the self-query requirement is a great example of this). So while we have never had one of our certificates denied by any board we are aware of, we cannot guarantee that the board will give you your supervisor designation.
Q: This course is online but do I ever get to talk to an instructor and ask questions?

A: Yes. We have a weekly Zoom/virtual study hall that our instructors and graders attend. You can also use the link in your course to schedule a phone call.
Q: Are there payment plans?
​
A: Yes, but we do charge an extra fee to account for the extra transaction fees. Also, much like universities, we will not give you your certificate until your account is paid in full.

Q: Can I get certificates for each module I take within the course?
A: Unfortunately no. The course will provide you with one completion certificate when you finish the entire thing.
Q: How long can I take to complete the LCSW Online 40 Hour Supervisor Training Course?
A: As of 2023, the Social Work board allows only 90 days to complete the course. At Kate Walker Training, we start the 90 day clock when you purchase the course. If you take longer than 90 days you can still complete, but your certificate will indicate that you are not eligible for the supervisor designation through Kate Walker Training. You can still complete the training with another provider.

Q: I didn't finish in 90 days. Can I re-take your course?
A: Remember, even if you don't finish in 90 days, you paid for the course and it's still yours. You can continue to work on it for CEs, but you will not be able to count the course towards your supervisor designation in Texas. We do roll out updated courses and you may be able to purchase a new 40-hour training under some circumstances. Check with support@katewalkertraining.com to see if you are eligible.
